Chapter 2 in Accounting, Finance, and Taxation in the Gulf Countries, 2008, pp 27-47 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to understand and discuss the economic and political factors and their impact on accounting systems and management practices in the Gulf countries. Prior research has indicated that there are difficulties in harmonizing international accounting and auditing standards of the Gulf countries because of the significant impact of economic, religious, and political factors on the internationalization of accounting and auditing standards. Moreover, as international comparisons of accounting practices have revealed differences, research has identified that those environmental factors have a considerable effect on a country‘s accounting and auditing system and practices.
