Abstract With a population of 6.3 million people, Indiana was the fifteenth most populous state in the United States in 2006. From 2000 to 2006 the state’s population increased by 233,035 people, and is projected to increase to 6.7 million by 2025. This 0.3% projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 0.8%. The state’s 2006 per capita personal income of $32,226 was higher compared to $30,883 in 2005 and fifteenth lowest in the United States, some $4,403 below the national average. Per capita income in Indiana grew at an average annual rate of 2.9% from 2000 to 2006, compared to 3.5% nationally.
