Abstract: Abstract Missouri, located in the West North Central region of the United States, had a population of 5.8 million people in 2006, making it the eighteenth most populous state. The state’s population increased by 247,502 people from 2000 to 2006, and is projected to increase to 6.3 million by 2025. This 0.4% projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 0.8%. Per capita personal income in Missouri was $32,793 in 2006, up from $31,380 in 2005. For 2006, this was the twentieth lowest in the country and $3,836 below the national average. From 2000 to 2006 per capita income in Missouri grew at an average annual rate of 3.1%, compared to 3.5% nationally.
