Abstract:
Abstract Pennsylvania is located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States and had a population of 12.4 million people in 2006, making it the sixth most populous state. The state’s population increased by 159,657 people from 2000 to 2006, and is projected to increase to 12.8 million by 2025. This 0.2% projected annual growth rate is below the national average of 0.8%. Per capita personal income in Pennsylvania was $36,689 in 2006, up from $34,810 in 2005. For 2006, this was $60 above the national average and the nineteenth highest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at an average annual rate of 3.6% from 2000 to 2006, compared to 3.5% nationally.
