Sustainable development

David E. Hawkins

Chapter Chapter 18 in Corporate Social Responsibility, 2006, pp 151-159 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Numerous corporate reports carry the words of CEOs who claim they are making good progress towards a strong, sustainable business. But what is sustainable development? Sustainability is the capacity to continue operating in the long term. It is also important to establish that sustainability is not just about protecting the environment and taking a more measured view concerning the use of natural resources; it must also incorporate consideration for ensuring stable economic and social growth for the whole community.
