Individual versus group
David E. Hawkins
Chapter Chapter 8 in Corporate Social Responsibility, 2006, pp 61-68 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The fulcrum on which the whole sustainability agenda rests lies at the individual level. It may be easy to pass the responsibility towards groups such as the government or the business community, or even individual business leaders or companies. The reality is that individuals create the demand and many contribute to servicing that demand. The responsibility rests with the decisions made at an individual level and it is this pressure that business leaders understand. They can create a market demand but they are vulnerable to the influence of that market.
