Chapter 1 in Shareholder Activism, 2007, pp 3-16 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Shareholder activism is at the centre of this investigation and, as will be shown in Chapters 2 to 4, scholars generally try to relate it to other independent variables in order to explain its occurrence. It is, therefore, crucial for scholars of shareholder activism to clarify this key concept. No single study can cover the whole domain of shareholder activism completely. Nevertheless, a clear understanding of the boundary and features of the object of study will enable a researcher to position his/her study in a broader context. On an aggregate level, a clear boundary of shareholder activism also allows scholars to discover less explored areas in which they may be interested for future study.
