Chapter 1 in What Drives Global Capital Flows?, 2006, pp 1-37 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The unprecedented force of capital inflows to the USA which built up in the early years of the 21st century provoked awe, bewilderment, resentment, and intense anxiety. In order to understand the wide range of reaction amidst the universe of international investors, currency diplomats, international bureaucrats, and economic commentators, it is necessary to delve far into the subject of what drives the global flow of capital. That is the main theme of the present volume.
