Abstract:
Abstract Regular coastal shipping is a vital means of transport in Greece because of the large number of island groups that form part of the country. Important urban centres are situated on the coast and the Greek people have a long maritime tradition. In effect, the coastal shipping lines make up the arteries that connect various parts of the country together, and for this reason the Greek state has a long history of involvement in the shipping industry.
