EU Business Associations: Meeting the needs of Europe’s Service Sectors?
Irina Michalowitz
Chapter 14 in The Effectiveness of EU Business Associations, 2002, pp 131-142 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Services are presently faster growing and changing than any other sector — but this development is not reflected in their political influence. In the following, the needs and means of the services sector in terms of associational interest representation at the European level will be assessed. It will be argued that associations in the services sector are indeed necessary — but due to several reasons, the way the existing organisations are meeting the needs of services is suboptimal. The source of problems is not mainly the individual association itself, but its members who lack sufficient participation.
