Abstract:
Abstract China is the largest producer of wheat and rice in the world and is second only to the United States in the production of coarse grains. It has a population of over 1.2 billion—20 per cent of the world’s population— and an economy which is growing faster than any other. China’s net grain imports have varied from year to year but shown no overall trend. Imports have been a small proportion of total grain supplies.
