New Forms of Vehicle Maker-Supplier Interdependence? The Case of Electric Motor Development for Heavy Hybrid Vehicles

Dedy Sushandoyo, Thomas Magnusson and Christian Berggren

Chapter 10 in The Greening of the Automotive Industry, 2012, pp 185-204 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Hybrid powertrains have become a key technology for environmentally friendly passenger cars. Almost all of the major carmakers have incorporated this technology in their products, and some of them have enjoyed significant sales in recent years. Several heavy vehicle makers (such as Scania, Volvo Trucks, Daimler) and MAN, have also developed hybrid electric buses and trucks; however, at the time of writing, the costs of these vehicles remain very high, therefore launching commercially viable heavy hybrid electric vehicles is still a very challenging task.
