An Integrated Europe: Undermined by Transactional Interests

Andrew Kakabadse and Nada Kakabadse

Chapter 8 in Rethinking the Future of Europe, 2014, pp 161-189 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Globalisation generates a paradox of power by simultaneously strengthening and weakening the State (Phillips, 1998). As Evans (1992) further highlights, economic globalisation restricts State power, but transnational capital needs capable States as much, or even more than, as domestically oriented business does.
