Can India eclipse China?

Chapter Chapter 6 in Future Asia, 2013, pp 99-113 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In 2011, India’s per capita GDP was around USD 1,400. This compared with Chinese per capita GDP of USD 5,400. Yet in the 1950s, both countries were among the poorest and least developed, with largely agrarian societies engaged in subsistence farming. Even by the time Senior Leader Deng Xiaoping’s economic reforms commenced in China in 1978, there was little difference in per capita GDP levels and living standards between the two nations.
