Gregory W. Noble
Chapter Chapter Five in Winning in Asia, Japanese Style, 2002, pp 123-156 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The automobile industry occupies a special place in Japan’s remarkable economic development. The auto industry is the largest producer and exporter in Japan. Innovations in production technology and business organization pioneered at Toyota and other Japanese firms won universal recognition as pacesetters for the motorcar industry and manufacturing more generally. For many authors, the auto industry was emblematic of the economic superiority of Japanese production networks.2
