Chapter 2 in Environmental Innovation and Firm Performance, 2013, pp 24-78 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract From the second half of the 1990s concern for the relationship between firms and the natural environment has been growing in the academic literature (Hart and Dowell, 2010). Although industrial development over the last two years has brought prosperity and wealth, it has caused environmental degradation unintentionally (Shrivastava, 1995). Industrial activity has increased to the point that there have been irreversible effects on our global environment, including impact on climate, biodiversity and ecosystems. Global population growth has resulted in mass migration from rural areas to cities, increasing social and economic inequalities and social degradation (Hart and Milstein, 2003).
