Chapter Chapter 18 in The Pillars of Finance, 2014, pp 247-260 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract We mentioned the great Impressionist Claude Monet earlier. It is not widely known that as a young man he joined the French colonial cavalry. However he became very ill after the first couple of years whereupon his aunt, who had looked after him since the death of his mother while he was in his teens, managed to extricate him from the army and arranged for him to study with the art teacher Charles Gleyre.
