Chapter Chapter 12 in All Above Board, 2013, pp 162-167 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract I have always been interested in the areas of strategy and leadership, as these are implemented in both entrepreneurial organizations and in large complex corporations. Both in my academic work as adjunct professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD and also as visiting professor of Entrepreneurship at the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship, the role and influence of leaders on strategy and thus on value creation in the business, have always been themes of keen interest to me. In my professional career both as senior partner of Bain & Company, and as advisor and manager in the private equity industry, the focus on leadership and strategy has been a key issue. Finally, as chairman and board member of several companies, both small and large, I have been exposed to the set of critical issues that a board faces. I have also seen how often the board is either ignored or is not used in a way that it be should in order to leverage its potential to create value for the corporation it serves.
