Chapter 4 in Understanding Mergers and Acquisitions in the 21st Century, 2013, pp 79-108 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There is a long tradition of academic research on mergers and acquisitions (M&As) within the fields of finance, business and economics. Since at least 1935, this has considered questions relating to performance evaluation and has been concerned with issues relating, for example, to what sort of returns mergers generate, and for whom (e.g. Livermore, 1935).
