Chapter Chapter 2 in Private Equity Unchained, 2014, pp 7-15 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Depending on your perspective, private equity investing is either very new or very old. There are repeated examples throughout human history of organisational structures that look remarkably like today’s private equity limited partnership structure and some of which we will analyse in detail later on. Few, if any, have a direct evolutionary link to today’s industry, but they are nevertheless revealing about the nature of private equity investment.
