Abstract: Abstract State crimes against democracy (SCADs) (deHaven-Smith, 2006), embracing economic state crimes against democracy (E-SCADs) (Johnston et al., 2010a, 2010b), have been defined by deHaven-Smith (2010) as concerted actions … by government insiders intended to manipulate democratic processes and undermine popular sovereignty [with] potential to subvert political institutions and entire governments.… [They] are high crimes that attack democracy itself. (p. 795, emphasis added)
