Abstract: Abstract Tibet Autonomous Region is in the PRC. It is a plateau on the northeast side of the Himalayas. It adjoins Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province to the north, Sichuan Province to the east and Yunnan Province to the southeast, and it shares international borders with Myanmar, India, Bhutan and Nepal to the south and west. It is the traditional homeland of the Tibetan people as well as of other ethnic groups, such as the Monpas, the Qiang and the Lhobas. Tibet is now also inhabited by considerable numbers of the Han and the Hui people.
