Abstract: Abstract There is no wider or more ambiguous subject in this book than the strategic alliance. Strategic alliances are the catch-all phrase used to suggest a long-term working relationship between two separate organizations. Outsourcing, long-term supplier relationships, licensing agreements, and agency agreements all fall under the heading of nonequity alliances—the organizations hold no equity in the other partners but can influence their actions. They differ from joint ventures and minority equity stakes that are the most common forms of equity alliances. Nonequity alliances are discussed in this chapter as is research on alliances that doesn’t differentiate between alliance types.
