Legal and Commercial Challenges in Private Equity in the Middle East

Rajeev Dewan

Chapter Chapter 8 in Private Equity in Emerging Markets, 2012, pp 89-97 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Middle Eastern countries have some of the fastest growing economies of the world, and have shown some of the most outstanding GDP growth rates over the past 10 years. In light of these growth rates, and despite the political instability in the region, revenues generated by oil and gas trade, and the resulting accumulation of wealth and a growing middle class, present a number of opportunities for private equity (PE) investors. This growth has been further reinforced by the adoption of certain market reforms and privatization efforts by these governments in respect of certain sectors such as education, energy, health care, and transportation.
