Abstract:
Abstract In many ways Welch’s philosophy emerged out of the way in which he responded to not fitting into the culture of General Electric (GE). He felt like an outsider at the company. In his early years there, Welch was deeply disillusioned with the organisations habits of practice. It was within the first year of being at the company that, as he puts it “The romance that brought me to GE was evaporating” (Welch, 2001, p. 22). He could not accept the conventions of GE. He could not feel at a home in the Heideggerian sense. So frustrated was he with the organisation that he decided to leave the organisation — even though, it seems, he did not want to leave.
