Abstract The following section provides a general overview of the various definitions, developments and scope of corporate governance. It describes the different theoretical frameworks, elaborates on the empirical developments in the academic research and gives a summary of the relevant guidelines. Furthermore, this section focuses on the German corporate governance system and institutional investors.
