Abstract:
Abstract On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina, one of the five deadliest hurricanes in US history, slammed into the Louisiana coast — with sustained winds during landfall in southeastern Louisiana of 125 miles per hour. Psychologists in the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), Division 14 of the American Psychological Association (APA), jumped into action to do what they could to help the people and businesses that had been ravaged and/or destroyed by that storm. We hope that by sharing the story of what we did, and how we overcame various barriers encountered, other professional organizations that plan disaster relief outreach will benefit from our experience.
