The Asset Management Industry Dynamics of Growth, Structure and Performance
Ingo Walter ()
Chapter 1 in Global Asset Management, 2013, pp 3-35 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the industrial organisation and institutional development of the global asset management industry. Few industries have encountered as much ‘strategic turbulence’ in recent years as has the financial services sector in general and the asset management — the ‘buy-side’ of the capital markets — in particular. Indeed, there is ample evidence to suggest that the development of the asset management industry has much to do with capital allocation in national and global financial systems. That is, asset-gathering and deployment of savings affect the pace of capital formation and the economic growth process more broadly.
