Abstract: Abstract Workers’ remittances—funds sent by emigrant workers to persons, usually family members, in their home country—are a major source of income for many Latin American and Caribbean economies. More importantly, remittances are a lifeline for many poor households and justification for splitting up families, sometimes permanently.
