Average is Over

Chapter Chapter 3 in Beyond the Job Description, 2013, pp 45-56 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract FOLLOWING THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL crisis of 2008, work became more competitive than ever, and job insecurity had never been higher. Thought leaders like Thomas Friedman and others clearly said that “average is over, and everyone must find their ‘extra’ in order to stay relevant.”1 Despite the numerous calls for rethinking how we approach the challenges of work, there have been surprisingly few definitive, research-based solutions.
