Chapter 5 in Social Enterprise in Emerging Market Countries, 2013, pp 89-110 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter focuses on the appropriate approach to move early-stage social enterprises from incubation/proof of concept to their first-scaling process. This process, referred to as “first-stage scaling” because it is the first true attempt of the enterprise to grow or replicate, has many implications for social enterprises in terms of their business model, leadership team, governance, and financing. This chapter will highlight some of the common issues that arise when growing socially driven enterprises, and ways to overcome these challenges.
