Abstract: Abstract It’s time we stopped pretending that the barriers that kept women from reaching the top of America’s corporations no longer exist. Yes, things are better than they were when the Lost Leaders first entered the workplace, but progress seems to have slowed. And yes, there have been some high-profile, successful women, but they are the exceptions. For most women, the barriers are still very real. As the infamous congresswoman Bella Abzug said in the late 1970s, and I echo today: “We don’t want so much to see a female Einstein become an assistant professor. We want a woman schlemiel to get as quickly promoted as a male schlemiel.”1
