Chapter 2 in International Partnership in Russia, 2014, pp 61-114 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Having described the historical context of foreign investment in the Russian oil and gas industry it is now important to outline the key theoretical foundations for a discussion of why this investment may, or may not, have been successful in the post-Soviet era. This chapter presents a thorough review of the academic literature concerning this topic. However, although the authors believe that such a review is valuable in providing a context for the book as a whole, they also appreciate that a lengthy chapter covering academic theory may not be of interest to all readers. As a result, we first provide a brief synopsis of the chapter as a whole, which can act as an introduction for those who wish to read the chapter in full but can also provide a short summary of the main arguments to those who might wish to move on more rapidly to the case studies in Chapter 3.
