Chapter 11 in Coaching with Colleagues, 2014, pp 122-140 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter we briefly review the ‘coaching outcome’ literature, and we offer suggestions for using the different approaches and methods and the conversations within which they can be applied. We start with a summary of conclusions from research into the effects of coaching and psychotherapy, which quickly refutes the myth that there is a single ‘right’ method for every coaching issue, or even for one specific issue. Then we take a look at the evidence from research and practical experience that argues for or against certain methods. This evidence gives rise to recommendations as to the choice of method. However, the main recommendation is to choose a method that fits as closely as possible with your own personality, and to keep exploring and developing that ‘personal’ method on an on-going basis.
