Abstract: Abstract Ms. Ali is a young emerging leader with a PhD in sociology from York University in Toronto, Canada; she teaches leadership to young women from the Middle East and South Asia. Ms. Ali was born in Bangladesh, moved to Thailand during her formative years, and attended university in Canada. A global citizen, she is comfortable working in many cultures. She is an academic motivated by learning and the desire to make the world a better place through knowledge. Ms. Ali’s story moves from chaos to confusion; early on, she rejected Islam, culture, and country but embraced all three in adulthood. Through her intellectual and personal journey of awareness, she explores Islamic leadership inside and outside Bangladesh. Reading through the research on transformational leadership (Ciulla 2004), I found strong links between Ms. Ali’s philosophy and transformational leadership focused on the greater good.
