What Is an SME?

David Munro

Chapter 1 in A Guide to SME Financing, 2013, pp 7-13 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Size-based definitions (total assets, turnover, number of employees) vary widely from country to country and make comparisons difficult. It is better to differentiate SMEs from micro-enterprises and large enterprises on the basis of complexity of organizational norms. Corporate governance options are discussed in some detail in this chapter.
