Abstract:
Abstract IN 2012 THE UN ANNOUNCED that “for the first time since poverty trends began to be monitored, … poverty rates fell in every developing region” of the world. In Southern Asia, the proportion of people living on less than $1.25 a day fell from 51% in 1990 to 34% in 2008, and in Latin America and the Caribbean the corresponding decrease was from 12% to 6%.
