A chapter in Stock Market Integration: An International Perspective, 2014, pp 84-86 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This study is one of the first to attempt to analyze the stock market integration in an international perspective, trying to figure out the similarities between different integration projects and to identify the key drivers of successful fusions. In particular, the existence of de jure stock market integration projects suggests designing a special regulatory framework in order to benefit from important consequences of an integration and to decrease the risk of financial contagion. Moreover, in the current regulatory environment, the growing strategy through mergers and acquisitions becomes very difficult for big stock exchange markets, meanwhile possible cooperation and partnership agreements are still available solutions for large and small operators. Finally, important exchange operators can bring their reputation and trading technology, meanwhile the smaller markets can provide access to fast-growing and emerging markets.
