Abstract: Abstract Lawyers are skilled in knowing general legal principles, procedures, and substantive aspects of the law; thus they have the ability to analyze and provide solutions to legal problems (Dibbern et al., 2008). Lawyers, as knowledge workers, apply a variety of knowledge categories, such as declarative and procedural knowledge. Most lawyers spend several hours a day answering the types of queries that cannot be captured or researched in a general knowledge base. As part of the execution of knowledge processes, lawyers can decide for themselves what knowledge they want to evaluate, develop, implement, and communicate in relation to their cases. When several lawyers work on the same case, there is often an independence of professionals working together, which might be characterized as collective individualism or individualistic collectivism that makes the sharing of knowledge both dynamic and random. Autonomy of performance is an important structural feature that can promote knowledge processes, since such autonomy encourages individuals to develop new knowledge. At the same time, several people looking at the same problem can come up with different, novel approaches to solving the problem. Lawyers, as knowledge professionals with a great deal of autonomy, are free to choose an individual approach to knowledge processes, including the need for, storage of, access to, sharing of, application of, creation of, and evaluation of knowledge as they relate to their cases.
