Abstract:
Abstract Regional integration agreements are a main feature of world trade today. The number of such agreements has multiplied in recent years, as the World Trade Organization (WTO) notes: Most WTO members are also party to one or more regional trade agreements. Since the early 1990s, the sharp increase in the number of Regional Trade Agreements has continued. Some 250 Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) have been notified to the GATT/WTO up to December 2002, of which 130 were notified after January 1995. Over 170 RTAs are currently in force; an additional 70 are estimated to be operational although not yet notified. (WTO, 2003)
