The Steward Role

Chapter Chapter 18 in Learning Leadership in a Changing World, 2014, pp 187-200 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Meeting the obligations of each Role presents the organization with three challenges. First, no rulebook exists to guide the organization in distributing its attention and resources between each Role. The status of the organization’s internal life, as well as the shifting demands of the external environment, often requires a disproportionate emphasis on some Roles over the others, at least for a time. For instance, strategic clarity (Direction Setter) may take precedence for a time over change initiatives (Learner), or change initiatives over the development of more leaders (Coach).
