Chapter 2 in Corporate Governance Practices in India, 2015, pp 12-27 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Corporate governance refers to the way a company is governed. It is about promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability in the running of an organization.1 Mahajan (2003),2 states that corporate governance has succeeded in attracting a good deal of public interest because of its importance for the economic health of a corporation and for the welfare of society in general. However, the concept of corporate governance is defined in several ways, because it covers a whole range of activities. As a result, different people have come up with different definitions which reflect their special interest in the field.
