Texas Real Estate: From the 1980s’ Oil Bust to the Shale Oil Boom

John Duca, Michael Weiss and Elizabeth Organ

Chapter 8 in Ten-Gallon Economy, 2015, pp 109-118 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Texas’ oil-boom excesses in the 1980s created a residential and commercial real estate overhang that led to the collapse of the state’s banks. A restructured financial sector and renewed employment growth suggest a different outcome when the current shale energy expansion ebbs.
