Chapter 2 in Finance, Society and Sustainability, 2017, pp 27-51 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There are two channels through which people save via the financial system, which allocates these savings back into the economy. The deposit channel is where savings are left in a bank which lends money out against these deposits. The other is the savings channel, for example a pension, where the saver pays money into a pension, which is invested on their behalf by a series of intermediaries in capital markets.
