Exploiting Growth-Hysteria
Paul Einzig
Chapter 7 in The Case against Joining the Common Market, 1971, pp 52-56 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract One of the most tempting inducements held out by those in favour of joining the Common Market is that it would step up Britain’s highly inadequate growth, thereby raising the standard of living. Of course we are all in favour of a higher rate of growth and a higher standard of living, just as we are in favour of fair weather, good health and everlasting happiness for all. A thousand pities that they cannot be brought about by merely wishing them to come about.
