Chapter 15 in The Economics of Residential Location, 1973, pp 250-258 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this book we have developed a positive theory of residential location; we have been concerned with what the pattern of location is, not with what it ought to be. In Chapter 7, and elsewhere, we have discussed some of the normative aspects of variations in residential density, as has Mirrlees (1972), but a normative theory of residential location still awaits development. This does not mean, however, that we cannot use the positive theory to assess the feasibility or effects of policies or plans which will alter the spatial structure of a city.
