Abstract: Abstract The Federal Republic’s most distinctive achievement is probably in the field of housing and town and country planning. The quantity of building is a great accomplishment, but an even greater one is its quality. Admittedly mistakes were made in the early days, when the need to provide homes was so pressing, and some German planners and architects are very critical of what has been achieved, although hard pressed to name any country that has done better.
