Abstract: Abstract Since 1960 foreign banks have achieved a substantial expansion in their activities and operations in the United States. This has taken place within a world-wide environment of rapid growth in international banking. The purpose of this chapter is to review the growth of foreign banking in this country, to describe the types of operations performed and their effects, and to discuss the regulatory environment as it applies to foreign banks.
