Zero economic growth and the distribution of income

Chapter 7 in The Economic Growth Controversy, 1973, pp 141-153 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Earlier in these sessions, geological time was made comprehensible to our finite human minds by the statement that the 4 1/2 billion years of earth’s history was equivalent to once around the world in an SST. If I remember the numbers correctly, man got on eight miles before the end, and industrial man got on six feet before the end. The participants in this symposium all got on some fraction of a millimeter before the end, and today we are having a debate about the extent to which man ought to maximize the length of time that he is on that airplane.
