Chapter 1 in The World Monetary Crisis, 1974, pp 1-16 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract An understanding of the workings of the gold standard system during the period covering the latter half of the nineteenth century and the present century until the beginning of the Bretton Woods system is essential if we are to seek some of the reasons for the present world monetary crisis. The period can be divided into three sections, 1850–1914, 1925–31 and 1931 onwards.
